A modern and consistent rebrand for one of Oxford’s most recognizable destinations

Challenge
Skipper’s Pub & Top Deck is a long-standing Oxford staple, but the brand felt inconsistent across its website, social media, logo usage, and overall visual system. The challenge was to modernize the brand without removing the history, familiarity, and local character that people already associate with it.
Process
I started by researching Skipper’s current brand presence, competitors, audience, and customer perception. From there, I explored how the brand could feel more organized and recognizable while still keeping its traditional pub identity. I focused on typography, color, layout, and a stronger relationship between Skipper’s Pub and Top Deck.
Solution / Final Work

The final brand system uses a more cohesive visual language built around nautical identity, traditional typography, structured layouts, and a warm pub-inspired color palette. The system was applied across a website homepage, social media pieces, print materials, merchandise, and brand guidelines.
Logo Design
The Skipper’s logo system was designed to create a more recognizable and consistent identity across digital and print applications. The final direction combines traditional pub-inspired typography with nautical imagery to reflect the history and atmosphere of the brand while still feeling modern and structured. Multiple logo variations were created to improve flexibility across signage, merchandise, social media, and promotional materials.

Website Mockup


The website mockup was designed to give Skipper’s a clearer and more organized digital presence. The layout focuses on easy navigation, event promotion, menu visibility, and creating a stronger first impression for both students and visitors in Oxford. The visual system carries over the brand colors, typography, and imagery to create consistency between the physical pub experience and the online experience.
Social Media Mockups
The social media system was created to help Skipper’s maintain a more cohesive and recognizable presence across Instagram and Facebook. The mockups include promotional graphics, event announcements, templates, and branded content designed to attract students while keeping the tone energetic and community-focused. Consistent typography, color usage, and layout structure were used to strengthen brand recognition across recurring posts
Reflection
This project helped me understand how much strategy goes into a rebrand. I learned that updating a brand is not just about making it look newer, but about keeping what people already recognize while making the system clearer, more consistent, and easier to use.
